Preventive Activities Promote Safer Road Traffic Across North Macedonia

On 10 July 2026, police officers from the Prevention Department and the Traffic Police Unit of the Strumica Sector of Internal Affairs carried out a preventive campaign in the Strumica area under the slogan "Don't Use Your Mobile Phone While Driving." Drivers were informed about the legal prohibition on using mobile phones while operating a vehicle and the serious risks and potential consequences of distracted driving.

On 11 July 2026, police officers from the Traffic Police Unit of the Kavadarci Police Department conducted a road safety awareness campaign in Kavadarci under the theme "Be a Careful and Responsible Road User – Wear a Helmet." The campaign aimed to improve traffic culture among moped and motorcycle riders and raise awareness of responsible road behaviour through compliance with traffic laws and regulations. Particular emphasis was placed on the mandatory use of helmets by both riders and passengers to enhance personal safety. During the activity, educational leaflets produced in cooperation with the National Road Traffic Safety Council and the Faculty of Security – Skopje were distributed.

Also on 11 July 2026, a preventive and educational event dedicated to motorcyclist safety was held in the central square of Gostivar. The event was organised by police officers from the Prevention Department of the Tetovo Sector of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the Gostivar General Police Station and the Gostivar Traffic Police Unit, following an initiative by the GoBikers Motorcycle Club from Gostivar. The activity formed part of the "Safe Traffic" Operational Action.

Around 20 members of the GoBikers Motorcycle Club took part, explaining to members of the public the importance of responsible motorcycle riding. In cooperation with the Red Cross – Gostivar, a first-aid simulation exercise was conducted, demonstrating the correct emergency response to a traffic accident involving a motorcyclist and highlighting how timely and appropriate action can save lives. Red Cross volunteers also distributed drinking water to visitors.

As part of the event, the Prevention Department of the Tetovo Sector of Internal Affairs set up an educational stand under the slogan "Always Wear a Helmet and Protect Your Life." Citizens and road users received informational leaflets titled "Helmet or Head – The Choice Is Yours," conveying key road safety messages. The leaflets were produced jointly by the National Road Traffic Safety Council, the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia, and the Faculty of Security – Skopje, with the aim of raising road safety awareness and reducing the risk of traffic accidents.
