The Prevention Unit of SVR Shtip launched the campaign “Drive Safely – Arrive Securely” with a preventive-educational activity at the Kadrifakovo toll station. The activity was carried out by police officers from the Traffic Safety Police Station within SVR Shtip, who distributed leaflets with useful advice for drivers.
Ahead of the winter season, the aim of the campaign is to remind drivers that from 15 November to 15 March, it is mandatory to possess and carry winter equipment in their vehicles, as well as to educate them on its proper use.
Mandatory winter equipment for motor vehicles up to 3,500 kilograms includes winter tires with a minimum tread depth of 4 mm on all four wheels, or summer tires with a minimum tread depth of 4 mm along with snow chains for the driving wheels. For vehicles with all-wheel drive (4×4), winter tires on all wheels with a minimum tread depth of 6 mm are required, or summer tires with a minimum tread depth of 4 mm and snow chains.
Winter conditions present a higher level of risk: slippery roads due to snow, ice, or frost, reduced visibility caused by dense fog or precipitation, longer stopping distances and instability during sudden movements, as well as increased driver fatigue.
Therefore, SVR Shtip and the Prevention Unit appeal to all traffic participants to follow these recommendations:
follow the information about weather and road conditions;
-adjust driving according to road conditions;
-respect traffic rules, regulations, and road signage;
-carry winter equipment in the vehicle and use it properly;
-perform a vehicle check-up;
-maintain a safe distance between vehicles;
-avoid sudden braking and sudden changes in speed.
Road safety is a shared responsibility, and only in this way can we build a culture of responsible and safe behavior in traffic.
