Preventive activities for safe traffic and fire prevention

Preventive activities for safe traffic and fire prevention

Today (July 13, 2026), police officers from the Prevention Department of the SVR Veles conducted a traffic preventive activity aimed at pedestrians as active participants in traffic. Citizens were reminded that when in the role of pedestrians, they have an obligation to respect traffic rules and regulations, noting that they should cross the street at marked crosswalks, refrain from using headphones and mobile phones, and remain vigilant, especially in the evening hours when moving in poorly lit areas. Police officers from the PS for BPS at SVR Veles today carried out a traffic preventive activity themed "Don't use your mobile phone while driving," reminding drivers of the risks associated with using a mobile phone while operating a vehicle and all other traffic rules and regulations, aimed at raising awareness among traffic participants and reducing the number of traffic accidents. Police officers from the Prevention Department at SVR Skopje conducted preventive activities aimed at motorcycle, electric scooter, and bicycle riders, reminding them of the rules and responsibilities for careful and responsible participation in traffic, particularly the obligation to wear a helmet.

Police officers from the Prevention Department at the SVR Kumanovo, the Prevention Department at the SVR Skopje, and the Police Station in Čaška conducted preventive activities for fire protection in the areas of Skopje, Dolno Kojnare, and the municipality of Čaška. Citizens were informed about the dangers of carelessly throwing and burning trash, dry grass, discarding cigarette butts, and other flammable materials in open spaces and near forested areas, in order to reduce the risk of wildfires. The goal of these activities is to enhance safety culture, as well as to strengthen trust and cooperation between the police and citizens, along with timely reporting of any instances of irresponsible behavior. As part of the activities, printed materials with educational recommendations were distributed to raise awareness about safety. The Prevention Department at SVR Kumanovo also collaborated with the General Hospital Kumanovo to implement a preventive activity aimed at protecting citizens from heat strokes, during which medical personnel provided appropriate recommendations and advice.

To improve mutual cooperation in preventing the occurrence of fires, police officers from SVR Ohrid and the Border Surveillance Police Station "St. Naum" at the Regional Center for Border Affairs West held a working meeting with police officers from the police station in Pogradec, under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Albania. During the working meeting, coordinated preventive security measures were agreed upon, aimed at raising public awareness about the need to protect forests from fires and prevent wildfires.

Joint police patrols were agreed upon in the forested areas around the border and border zone during the summer tourist season, along with intensive contacts for the exchange of information regarding potential risks and the establishment of direct mutual information channels for quicker and more effective communication in the event of a fire in the forested areas. This would serve as a basis for urgent notification of any fire that may arise, ensuring a swift response from the relevant authorities for its localization and extinguishment.
