Preventive Activities by the Veles, Shtip, Tetovo and Skopje Police Departments for Safer Traffic, Prevention of Domestic and Other Forms of Violence, and Protection Against Open-Air Fires

 

Today (22 July 2026), police officers from the Prevention Unit of the Veles Police Department carried out a preventive campaign entitled "Don't Use a Mobile Phone While Driving." Through direct communication with drivers, they highlighted the dangers of using a mobile phone while operating a vehicle. The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness among road users and improve traffic culture in order to reduce the number of traffic accidents.

Meanwhile, police officers from the Kavadarci Police Station conducted a preventive activity in the Municipality of Rosoman under the slogan "Wear Your Seat Belt." Citizens were reminded that wearing a seat belt is a legal obligation for both drivers and passengers. During both activities, educational leaflets prepared in cooperation with the Republic Council for Road Traffic Safety (RCRTS) and the Faculty of Security in Skopje were distributed.

Preventive road safety activities were also carried out today in Shtip and Kochani. In Shtip, officers from the Traffic Police Station organized a campaign under the slogans "If You Drink, Don't Drive" and "If You Drive, Don't Drink." Road users were informed that any driver found operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol above the legal limit would be subject to sanctions.

At several locations in Kochani, preventive activities were conducted under the slogans "Don't Use a Mobile Phone While Driving" and "Wear Your Seat Belt." Drivers were encouraged to drive responsibly and comply with all traffic rules and regulations.

At the city market in Vinica, a preventive campaign entitled "Don't Be a Silent Witness" and "Help Is Available for a Life Without Violence" was organized. During meetings with citizens, police officers provided advice on personal safety, distributed guidance on recognizing domestic and other forms of violence, informed citizens about available support services, and explained what they can do if they witness any form of violence. The main objective of the campaign was to strengthen public trust and cooperation between the police and the community.

In addition, officers discussed the topic "Don't Use a Mobile Phone While Driving" with drivers, presenting statistics on fatalities and injuries resulting from traffic accidents caused by mobile phone use while driving, as well as informing them about the relevant penalties prescribed under the Road Traffic Safety Law.

On 22 July 2026, as part of the "Safe Summer – Drive Rested" campaign, the Prevention Department of the Skopje Police Department, in cooperation with the Republic Council for Road Traffic Safety, distributed educational materials to drivers at the Miladinovci toll station, providing practical advice on how to prepare for a safe journey before setting off.

In the area covered by the Petrovec Police Department, the Prevention Department of the Skopje Police Department also carried out an educational campaign on forest fire prevention. Residents of the villages of Ajvatovci and Mrshevci were reminded to behave responsibly, avoid discarding cigarette butts, and exercise caution when lighting barbecues or open fires. Educational leaflets containing fire prevention advice were also distributed.
