Preventive activities by the Police Department of Skopje and the Police Department of Tetovo aimed at preventing the use of pyrotechnic materials and the consequences that may arise from their use

On December 22, 2025, in the area of the Čair Police Station, near a market in Butel, and today (December 23, 2025) in the area of the Karpoš Police Station, the Prevention Department of the Police Department of Skopje conducted preventive activities under the motto "Pyrotechnics - fun for a moment, deadly for a lifetime."
The preventive activities were focused on informing and educating citizens about the consequences of using pyrotechnic materials, with the goal of raising safety awareness and self-protection consciousness—adhering to standards of socially acceptable behavior, strengthening trust and cooperation between the local population and the police, as well as finding new approaches to combat such forms of crime.

Passersby were given educational materials, and it was pointed out to them that firecrackers cause stress and intense feelings of anxiety, both in people and animals. It is a fact that a significant number of people worldwide become disabled each year due to the use of firecrackers, with a large portion of them being children.
In parallel with these activities, at the Rade Jovčevski - Korčagin Secondary School, doctors from the University Clinic for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery held workshops under the motto "Create memories without injuries – say NO to pyrotechnic materials!" Similar workshops were held at the primary school "Aco Šopov" in Radišani, the primary school "Bratstvo," the secondary school "Vlado Tasevski," as well as at the primary school "Braća Ramiz i Hamid" in Šuto Orizari.

Today (December 23, 2026), as part of the joint preventive-educational activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Clinic for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from Skopje, and the Red Cross of Tetovo and Gostivar, professional lectures and presentations were held in three primary schools in Tetovo: the Primary School "Andrea Saveski Kiqish," "Naim Frashëri," and "Istikbal," as well as in the municipal secondary school "Gymnasium" and the Municipal Secondary Medical School. These sessions highlighted the risks associated with the use of pyrotechnic devices on students' health, particularly injuries to the hands, eyes, and other extremities, while teams from the Red Cross simulated practical exercises in providing first aid for injuries resulting from the use of pyrotechnic materials. In addition, police officers from the Prevention Department of the Tetovo Police Directorate informed the students about the legal implications of acquiring, selling, and activating firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in public places, on the streets, in yards in front of buildings, in entrances of residential buildings or schools, and similar locations, which can be sanctioned not only as a misdemeanor but also criminally, depending on the circumstances and the ultimate consequences.
