Preventive Activities by the Western Regional Border Affairs Center, Veles, Skopje, and Shtip Police Departments Focus on Heat Safety, Domestic Violence Prevention, and Road Safety

On 19 July 2026, between 12:00 and 18:00, crime prevention officers from the Western Regional Border Affairs Center, together with officers from the Ohrid Lake Border Surveillance Police Station and representatives of the Ohrid Municipal Red Cross, carried out a preventive awareness campaign on the waters of Lake Ohrid.

During the activity, officers engaged directly with tourists, visitors, local residents, and people using various types of watercraft. The campaign aimed to raise public awareness about the dangers of extreme heat, promote safety culture, and educate citizens on responsible behavior while spending time on the water during the summer tourist season.

Citizens received advice on preventing heatstroke, sunstroke, and dehydration, including avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day, drinking plenty of fluids, using sun protection, and paying special attention to the safety of children, elderly people, and individuals with chronic health conditions. Participants were also reminded of the importance of responsible boat operation, compliance with navigation rules, wearing life jackets and other safety equipment, avoiding operating watercraft under the influence of alcohol, and refraining from risky behavior that could endanger themselves or others.

On 20 July 2026, prevention officers from the Veles Police Department conducted a preventive campaign titled "There Is Help for a Life Without Violence." Through direct communication with citizens, officers provided information about domestic violence, victims' rights, and available protection measures. They also explained reporting procedures and available support services, protection mechanisms, and temporary accommodation, emphasizing the importance of promptly reporting all forms of violence. Educational leaflets containing practical advice were distributed to help raise public awareness.

Also on 20 July 2026, the Skopje Police Department's Prevention Unit organized preventive campaigns in the Saraj area under the slogan "Drive Rested", promoting safer road traffic and wildfire prevention. The campaign focused on improving road safety awareness, encouraging compliance with traffic regulations, strengthening cooperation between the police and the public, and educating citizens about fire prevention and the legal consequences of causing forest fires. Informational leaflets with educational content were distributed during the event.

On 20 July 2026, officers from the Shtip Traffic Police Station carried out a preventive campaign titled "Wear a Helmet." The initiative aimed to improve traffic culture by encouraging full compliance with road safety regulations while strengthening cooperation and trust between the police and citizens. Drivers also received educational materials containing practical road safety advice.
