The Cyber Crime Sector has summoned 13 individuals for spreading false information about water in Skopje

The Ministry of Internal Affairs informs the public that the Cyber Crime and Digital Forensics Sector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in connection with the dissemination of false information on social media regarding alleged contamination of drinking water in Skopje, has so far summoned 13 individuals for informational interviews.

The individuals underwent official questioning, during which all stated that they had published or shared the information after previously seeing a similar post on social media or hearing it from another person. Moreover, none of them pointed to a specific, confirmed, or credible source that would support the claims of water contamination.

The Cyber Crime and Digital Forensics Sector will continue to gather and analyze data to confirm all circumstances related to the incident, as well as the manner in which the information appeared and continued to spread in the online space.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that the spread of unverified and inaccurate information, especially concerning issues related to the health and safety of citizens, can cause unwarranted panic and distress in the public.

We urge citizens not to share information whose accuracy has not been verified and to inform themselves exclusively from official and relevant sources. Responsible use of social media and verifying information before publishing or sharing it is essential for preventing misinformation and protecting the public interest.
