Today (05.05.2026), the Director of the Public Security Bureau, Aleksandar Janev, addressed the Conference on Enhancing and Strengthening Joint Contact Centers for Police and Customs Cooperation in the Western Balkans, held in Skopje.
The conference was organized and supported through the IPA project “EU4FAST” – an initiative of the European Union aimed at strengthening the fight against migrant smuggling and human trafficking, implemented by the German Federal Police.
In his address, Director Janev emphasized that this platform is not merely a form of technical cooperation, but a clear signal of a shared vision – a vision in which security knows no borders and responsibility is shared. He highlighted that by strengthening police contact centers, operational coordination is deepened, the exchange of information, experience, and knowledge is enhanced, and a system is being built that is faster, more efficient, and more resilient to cross-border crime.
Additionally, it was stressed that the threats posed by organized criminal groups and networks that profit from human suffering are dynamic and transnational, which is why the response must be coordinated, trustworthy, and decisive. Only through partnership, open communication, and increased mutual trust can these phenomena be timely detected, identified, and suppressed.
These initiatives directly contribute to strengthening national security, ensuring stronger and safer borders, as well as a stable and resilient region, as part of the broader European security system.
As highlighted, the Macedonian police remain a proactive, reliable, and proven partner, with a clear commitment to contributing to regional stability and European security through continuous cooperation and the initiation of effective solutions in the protection of citizens and shared values.
