The director of the Bureau for Public Safety, Janev, opened the Memorial Tournament in honor of the fallen members of the Rapid Deployment Unit 

 

Today (May 17, 2026), at the headquarters of the Rapid Deployment Unit in Skopje, the director of the Bureau for Public Safety, Aleksandar Janev, paid tribute to the fallen members of the Unit who sacrificed their lives in service to the state, security, and citizens.

In the presence of their families, the mayor of Gjorce Petrov, MP Bojan Stojanovski, representatives of the unions, and colleagues from the special units of the Bureau for Public Safety, respect and gratitude were expressed at the monument erected in their honor for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for Macedonia.

"Their names and their deeds will never be erased from our police and institutional memory. They remain a lasting symbol of courage, honor, and selflessness. Their lives laid down for the homeland is a legacy for all of us to guard the safety of citizens and the integrity of the state with honesty, responsibility, and dedication," emphasized the director of the Bureau for Public Safety, Janev, adding that 
it is hardest for their families; the pain of loss never fades, but they must know they are not alone. 

"The police and the leadership will always stand by them because they are part of our great police family," said Janev.

In honor of the fallen members of the Rapid Deployment Unit, Director Janev also opened the memorial tournament, which features 14 teams from various organizational units of the police. At the opening, Janev pointed out that with a spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and fair play, we continue to keep alive the memory of those who did not allow fear to outweigh duty.

"Some gave a lot. They gave everything. The police profession is not just a job; it is a vow. A vow that we will be silent guardians of the peace, tranquility, and safety of the citizens and the state. That is why we are trained, that is why we wear the uniform, and that is why we are prepared to serve honorably and with dignity, even at the cost of our own lives," stated the director of the BJB, Janev.
