Director Janev on an official visit to the Austrian police: strengthening cooperation and joint security initiatives

 

The Director of the Bureau of Public Security (BPS), Aleksandar Janev, is on an official visit to the Austrian police in Vienna today and tomorrow (03–04 November).

During the visit, Director Janev held a meeting with his host, the Director General for Public Security, Franz Ruf, as well as with the Director of the Federal Criminal Police, General Andreas Holzer.

The meetings covered a wide range of topics, including bilateral relations between the two police services, mutual cooperation, information exchange, national and regional experiences and challenges, illegal migration, cross-border crime, issues related to border control and surveillance, experiences from joint border patrols with neighbouring countries, including the Frontex mission in North Macedonia, cooperation in locating and extraditing fugitives from justice, information sharing, cooperation in the areas of terrorism, radicalization, and the involvement of third-country nationals in conflict zones, as well as the experiences of both countries in implementing the community policing model, among other topics.

In addition, discussions were held on cases of mutual interest to both police services, as well as on the possibility of future joint operations in several areas aimed at combating transnational crime.

Both directors and the other members of the delegations expressed great satisfaction and gratitude for the cooperation between the Austrian and Macedonian police, emphasizing that an open approach to cooperation and information exchange increases efficiency and strongly contributes to a trustworthy partnership in the future.

During the stay in Austria, the Macedonian delegation will also hold meetings with the heads of the Office for Joint Operations against Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking, the Vienna Command and Control Centre, the Traffic Control Centre, as well as the Head of Vienna Airport.
