Today (02.08.2026), police officers from the Skopje, Strumica and Štip Sectors for Internal Affairs carried out preventive activities aimed at preventing fires in the tourist area of Matka Canyon, the village of Gorna Matka, the Strumica villages of Vodoča, Veljusa and Andjelci, as well as in the Municipality of Karbinci.
Through direct communication with citizens, police officers emphasized the importance of responsible behaviour in nature, with particular focus on avoiding the lighting of open fires, refraining from discarding cigarette butts, and immediately reporting any fire to the emergency number 112.
Farmers were reminded of the need to carry out agricultural activities with due caution, highlighting the risk of causing fires by burning field boundaries, stubble, dry grass and waste on agricultural land. They were also informed that causing a fire constitutes a criminal offence punishable by law.
Citizens were provided with printed educational materials prepared in cooperation with the Public Enterprise National Forests, including a reminder to comply with the ban on movement in forests, which remains in force until 31 August 2026.
The Prevention Department of the Skopje Sector for Internal Affairs, together with the Prevention Units of the Tetovo Sector for Internal Affairs and the Gostivar Police Department, also conducted preventive activities aimed at improving road safety.
In Gostivar, riders of electric scooters, bicycles and motorcycles were reminded of the importance of complying with traffic rules and regulations, with particular emphasis on the mandatory use of protective helmets. They were also reminded that every road user bears equal responsibility for both their own safety and the safety of all other participants in traffic.
On the Skopje–Tetovo motorway, near the Glumovo toll station, as part of the "Safe Summer – Drive Rested" campaign, drivers were informed through direct communication about the importance of driving only when well rested, as fatigue and reduced concentration are among the leading causes of traffic accidents during the summer period.
Police officers also stressed that, during the summer season, when traffic volumes increase and many drivers travel hundreds of kilometres to holiday destinations, it is particularly important to take frequent breaks during the journey and to follow safe driving recommendations and comply with traffic signs and regulations.
