The Ministry of Internal Affairs - Traffic Department conducted intensified action controls across the entire territory of the country last month (August) to sanction violations committed by drivers of light electric vehicles (electric scooters), during which 606 violations were recorded. Of these, 162 sanctions were issued for not wearing a reflective vest while operating an electric scooter at night, 134 for not using a bicycle or pedestrian path, 59 for not wearing a helmet, 45 for carrying two passengers, 20 for minors operating an electric scooter, and so on. In the process, 18 electric scooters were confiscated for a duration of 30 days.
Of the total number of violations, the largest portion was recorded in the area of the Bitola Police Department – 236, followed by the Skopje Police Department – 97, the Strumica Police Department – 82, the Ohrid Police Department – 57, the Tetovo Police Department – 27, the Veles Police Department – 18, the Stip Police Department – 13, the Kumanovo Police Department – 7, and 69 from the Mobile Traffic Safety Unit.
During the controls, 3,665 violations of other types were also recorded. For all identified violations, appropriate measures were taken, and sanctions were imposed in accordance with legal regulations.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues with enhanced traffic controls to increase the safety of all road participants and ensure strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations.
