Today, a central ceremony was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs to mark May 7 – the Day of the Macedonian Police, where Minister of Internal Affairs Panche Toshkovski and Director of the Bureau for Public Safety Aleksandar Janev addressed the audience.
In his speech, Minister Toshkovski emphasized that the Macedonian police remain a key pillar of security, stability, and the rule of law, highlighting that the institutions have the capacity to decisively tackle crime and corruption.
"Last year, we concluded with a reduction in overall crime by more than six percent. Sixteen organized crime groups were dismantled, involving 205 individuals. In the fight against corruption, several significant actions were carried out, including high-profile cases, and four criminal groups were also dismantled. It is particularly noteworthy that overall crime is on the decline and is at its lowest level in the last 20 years. The efficiency rate stands at 67.2%, which also represents the highest level in the same period," Minister Toshkovski pointed out.
He noted that alongside security activities, the Ministry is also intensively working on modernizing the institution and improving services for citizens.
"Administrative services in Skopje have been renovated, and eight new administrative offices have been opened across the country, significantly improving the accessibility of services. After more than 15 years, 120 new modern official vehicles have been procured, technologically equipped and connected to the Ministry's digital systems, enabling faster and more efficient field operations," emphasized Toshkovski.
The Director of the Bureau for Public Safety, Aleksandar Janev, emphasized in his address that the police remain the guarantor of safety and trust for the citizens, highlighting that professionalism and integrity are the core values upon which a strong institution is built.
"We are waging a decisive, systematic, and uncompromising fight against criminal groups – in all areas. We are systematically acting against their structures, their connections, their logistics, and their capital. The message is unequivocal – no one is above the law, without selectivity, without privileges, and without compromise," stated Director Janev.
During the ceremony, it was highlighted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues with reforms, modernization, and strengthening of institutional capacities, aiming to build a modern, professional, and efficient European police force that will be a true service to the citizens and a guarantor of safety and the rule of law.
Before the start of the central celebration, delegations from the Ministry of Internal Affairs laid fresh flowers at the memorials of police officers who lost their lives while performing their professional duties, protecting the safety and security of citizens and the integrity of the homeland. With deep respect, tribute was paid to their sacrifice and lasting contribution to the state and the Macedonian police.
The celebration of the Day of the Macedonian Police continues this afternoon at 5:30 PM in the City Park, where citizens will have the opportunity to view an exhibition of equipment and resources from various police units, socialize with police officers, and attend a musical happening at "Shkolka" featuring performances by well-known pop artists.
