Today, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Panche Toskoski, along with the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia, Michalis Rokas, and the permanent representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Armen Grigoryan, inspected the activities for establishing the "Markova Noga" border crossing, where the project "Border Station Prespa Lake: Establishing a border crossing between Greece and the Republic of North Macedonia in the area of Prespa Lake" is currently being implemented.
During the visit, progress was noted in the activities for the reconstruction and equipping of the border police station, which are being carried out under the IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Program "Greece – North Macedonia 2021-2027," with financial support from the European Union.
Minister Toskoski emphasized that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is fully committed to providing its institutional capacities for the successful implementation of the project, which represents a significant step towards strengthening regional connectivity and deepening cross-border cooperation.
"This project, which is being implemented with the support of the European Union, is a strategic priority for the Ministry of Internal Affairs aimed at enhancing regional connectivity, deepening cross-border cooperation, and supporting European integration processes. The opening of this border crossing represents a significant step towards strengthening border security and control capacities, through the establishment of modern and efficient mechanisms for border oversight and management in accordance with European standards," Minister Toskoski stated.
The meeting emphasized that the opening of the border crossing "Markova Noga" will contribute to intensifying economic, tourism, and cultural cooperation between the two countries, as well as improving communication and the daily connectivity of the local population on both sides of the border.
The interlocutors assessed that the project holds particular significance for the development of the Prespa region and serves as a concrete example of successful European support in enhancing good neighborly relations and regional cooperation.
The establishment of the border crossing "Markova Noga," after several decades since its closure, represents an important symbol of trust, cooperation, and a shared vision for a connected and prosperous region, in accordance with European values and standards.
