Driver Detained After Hitting and Seriously Injuring a Chinese Worker on the Ohrid–Kičevo Highway Construction Site

On 15 June 2026, at 07:55, the Ohrid Police Department received a report that on the Ohrid–Kičevo highway under construction, near the village of Orovnik in the Municipality of Debarca, K.Š. (32) from the village of Korošišta, Struga region, while driving a Mercedes passenger vehicle with Struga registration plates, lost control of the vehicle and struck a manhole, after which he hit L.J. (46), a citizen of the People’s Republic of China residing in the village of Izvor, who was carrying out work duties on the highway.

As a result of the accident, L.J. sustained serious bodily injuries, while the driver suffered bodily injuries. Their injuries were confirmed at the Special Hospital “St. Erasmus” in Ohrid.

By order of a public prosecutor, the driver K.Š. was deprived of liberty (detained), and an investigative team from the Ohrid Police Department conducted an on-site inspection. After the case is fully documented, appropriate charges will be filed.
