Yesterday (28 July 2026) at 7:55 p.m., the Border Surveillance Police Station for Lake Ohrid received a report that two people on stand-up paddle (SUP) boards, approximately 1,000 meters from the shoreline opposite the auto camp in Ohrid, were calling for help.
Lake Police officers immediately headed to the reported location and spotted the two individuals about 2,000 meters from the shore, struggling to stay afloat on their boards while signaling for assistance. The officers promptly rescued them and safely transferred them onto police boats.
It was established that the individuals were E.S. (19) and I.A. (18), both from Ohrid. Due to the sudden deterioration of weather conditions, accompanied by strong winds and high waves, they had been carried farther away from the shore and were unable to return safely. They were subsequently transported without incident to the Lake Police station.
To enhance safety on the water, the Ohrid Police Department and the Lake Police urge all swimmers and users of SUP boards and pedal boats not to venture beyond designated safe zones and to strictly observe all water safety measures.
