Timely intervention by the Cybercrime Sector – minor found safe

The Cybercrime Sector within the Ministry of Internal Affairs informs that during the past 24 hours, as part of its regular activities for monitoring the digital space, a social media post was detected containing content indicating a possible intention of suicide by a minor user.

Immediately upon obtaining this information, urgent and coordinated action was taken, and all necessary measures and activities were undertaken to establish the identity and location of the individual. Within a short period of time, the user was located, an interview was conducted, and it was determined that the person is safe and in good condition. The parents were also informed of the event and are familiar with the overall situation and the further steps to be taken.

This event once again highlights the importance of carefully monitoring young people’s behavior in the digital space. We appeal to parents to maintain regular and open communication with their children, to show interest in their activities on social networks, and to react promptly if they notice withdrawal, anxiety, threatening or concerning posts, and other unusual behavior.

At the same time, we also appeal to friends, classmates, and all social media users: if they notice posts containing content that indicates self-harm, hopelessness, or announcements of suicide, they should immediately use the reporting mechanisms available on the platform itself, and if the identity of the person is known to them, they should inform a parent, guardian, teacher, another responsible adult, or the nearest police station.

A timely reaction can save a human life. Shared responsibility, attention, and care are key in preventing tragedies. The Cybercrime Sector remains committed to protecting citizens in the digital space and will continue with intensified activities aimed at early detection and prevention of risky phenomena.
