Following a prior report from a citizen regarding the crime of "extortion" committed by the police officer H.Z. (48) in the Criminal Investigation Department of Gazi Baba, the Internal Control Department, Criminal Investigations, and Professional Standards at the Ministry of Internal Affairs took appropriate measures and actions to clarify the case.
Specifically, the citizen reported that H.Z., along with others, had repeatedly demanded 20,000 euros, money that allegedly the son of the complainant had taken from him. Subsequently, measures were taken, and a forensic examination of the financial assets was conducted, and on December 25, 2025, in the area of Centar, immediately after the handover, H.Z. was deprived of liberty, and during a search, 20 banknotes of 50 euros each were found in his possession.
He is being held at the police station, and the Violent Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Skopje Police Department has filed a criminal complaint against H.Z. with the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office of Skopje due to reasonable suspicion of committing the crime of "extortion" under Article 258 of the Criminal Code. The Internal Control Department will propose initiating proceedings to establish disciplinary responsibility against H.Z. and will impose a mandatory measure of removal from duty until the disciplinary proceedings are concluded. Meanwhile, a preliminary proceedings judge has imposed precautionary measures on the accused.
