Janev: Financial Investigations Are Key to Combating Organized Crime

Today (03 November 2026), in Skopje, the Director of the Bureau of Public Security, Aleksandar Janev, addressed the opening of the specialized training course “Transnational Financial Investigations”, organized with the support of ICITAP of the U.S. Department of Justice.

The training brings together representatives of relevant institutions and law enforcement agencies, including the Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the aim of enhancing knowledge, coordination and inter-institutional cooperation in the field of financial investigations.

In his address, Janev emphasized the importance of financial investigations and the confiscation of illegally acquired assets as key priorities in the fight against organized crime. He stressed that the most effective way to strike at criminal structures is to deprive them of their financial power and disrupt illicit financial flows.

Led by U.S. experts, the training aims to strengthen capacities for detecting money laundering, tracing cross-border financial flows, establishing the origins of assets and identifying their beneficial owners, with the ultimate goal of confiscating illegally acquired property.

Janev also underlined the importance of international cooperation, information exchange and joint institutional action, expressing his gratitude to the U.S. Embassy and ICITAP for their continued support and partnership.
