The Computer Crime Sector of the Bureau for Public Safety within the Ministry of Internal Affairs informs the public that there has been a notable increase in recent days, where unknown individuals are sending messages to Macedonian users from a foreign phone number +639606963624, claiming that a traffic violation has been registered and requesting payment via credit card on a fraudulent website http://mvr.govmk.cam/mk.
The scam operates in such a way that, after individuals click on the link provided in the message, it leads to a fake website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs where they are asked to enter their vehicle's registration plate, and then it redirects them to a new window indicating a registered violation, demanding a payment of 1500 denars for it.
We urge citizens to be cautious and not to trust messages coming from an illegitimate website of the Ministry, nor to provide their personal information and credit card details, which then become targets for misuse.
Additionally, the Computer Crime Sector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs appeals to citizens and legal entities not to open suspicious links and attached documents in messages that do not come from verified and known senders in order to avoid falling victim to such scams.
For easier recognition of the true message, citizens in the sender section of the message should see MVR-SC (translated as MVR Safe Country).
