6,264 traffic violations in the past 10 days; 151 persons deprived of liberty for reckless driving

In the period from 01.03.2026 to 10.03.2026, as a result of the regular traffic controls carried out by police officers from all Sectors for Internal Affairs on the roads across the country, out of a total of 6,264 issued payment orders, 1,800 violations refer to drivers who did not respect the prescribed speed limit.

151 persons were deprived of liberty for reckless driving, of whom 32 for driving under the influence of alcohol, one for driving at a speed higher than allowed in a populated area, three for driving at a speed higher than allowed outside a populated area, 50 for driving without a driving license, and 12 due to a previously imposed ban on driving a vehicle.

In the same period, 53 vehicles were confiscated under Article 300-b of the Criminal Code.

Furthermore, according to the statistical overview of police activities, during the past 10 days of March, 1,477 violations for illegal parking were recorded, as well as 110 sanctions for driving under the influence of alcohol.

On the other hand, in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Road Traffic Safety, 43 motorcycle drivers were sanctioned for not wearing a protective helmet, while 238 pedestrians and one driver of an electric scooter were also sanctioned. In addition, 754 road users were sanctioned for not using a seat belt.

According to the Law on Vehicles, 67 vehicles were removed from traffic because they were unregistered, and 79 due to technical malfunction. 25 drivers were also sanctioned for not fulfilling the prescribed conditions regarding the tinting of vehicle windows (foils).

Traffic controls will continue in the coming days. We appeal to all traffic participants to respect traffic rules and regulations and jointly contribute to safer roads.
