On 30.01.2026, two cases of fraud against elderly residents of Shtip were reported to the Shtip Police Department.
The first case was reported at 11:30 by a 96-year-old man, who stated that he was defrauded of 3,500 euros. According to the report, he received a phone call from a person who falsely presented himself as a doctor and told him that his daughter had suffered fractures and needed an urgent operation that had to be paid for immediately. Following prior instructions, the victim threw the money from his balcony, where it was collected by a person waiting below the building, who then left the scene. After later contacting his daughter, he realized it was a scam.
The second case was reported at 16:30 by a 77-year-old woman, who said she was defrauded in the same manner. A caller falsely posing as a doctor informed her by phone that her daughter had been seriously injured and urgently needed surgery. Following an arrangement with the perpetrators, she handed over 3,000 euros, 30,000 denars, and gold jewelry from her balcony to a female person, who took the items and left the scene. She later realized that she had been deceived.
In both cases, measures are being taken to fully clarify the incidents and identify the perpetrators.
