Today (16 October 2026), Director of the Bureau of Public Security, Aleksandar Janev, held a meeting with the Director of the Directorate for Execution of Sanctions, Aleksandar Pandov, during which they discussed the current situation in penitentiary institutions, with particular emphasis on Idrizovo Penitentiary and Skopje Penitentiary.
The discussions focused on strengthening operational intelligence capacities in prisons, the timely detection and anticipation of security risks, and the prevention of criminal activities related to the prison system. The introduction of electronic monitoring using electronic ankle bracelets for the enforcement of house arrest and home imprisonment was also discussed.
The meeting highlighted the importance of continuous information exchange, inter-institutional cooperation and coordinated action, with the aim of ensuring timely prevention, more effective crime prevention and improved public safety.
Both institutions will continue their partnership and coordinated activities to strengthen security capacities in the interest of citizens and the stability of the state.
