The Minister of Internal Affairs, Panče Toshkovski, today, on the first working day of the New Year, conducted working visits to the police facility on the mountain peak Solunska Glava, the Police Main Operations Headquarters, and the Centar Police Station.
During the meeting with police officers at Solunska Glava, the high level of professionalism and dedication in carrying out official duties and maintaining the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ telecommunications systems were confirmed, with the primary objective of guaranteeing public order and the safety of every citizen in the country.
During the visit to the Police Main Operations Headquarters, Minister Toshkovski was briefed on the overall events and activities undertaken by the police to maintain security during the holiday period and on New Year’s Eve, concluding that New Year’s Eve largely passed safely.
“From 14:00 yesterday until 05:00 this morning, 31 criminal offenses were recorded, as well as 23 traffic accidents, two of which resulted in serious bodily injuries. A total of 49 persons were detained on various grounds, most of them in connection with illegal drug trafficking and disturbances of public order and peace. These figures indicate that the vast majority of citizens behaved responsibly and thus contributed to personal and collective safety. On the other hand, the increased police presence on the ground contributed to a low number of incidents related to disturbances of public order and peace,” emphasized Minister Toshkovski.
During the visit to the Centar Police Station, Minister Toshkovski was briefed by the leadership of the Skopje Sector for Internal Affairs on specific activities to maintain the safety of citizens in the capital. Minister Toshkovski highlighted the positive effects of the “Safe City” system, which, even in its testing phase, has significantly reduced the number of traffic accidents with fatalities and serious bodily injuries.
“The total number of traffic accidents that occurred in the territory of the Skopje SIA over the past month, compared to December 2024, has been reduced by approximately 20%, while the total number of injured persons during that period has decreased by 37%. In December 2024, there were five fatalities resulting from traffic accidents in the territory of Skopje, whereas in December 2025 there were none. With this, I express my great gratitude to Macedonian citizens who drive vehicles—for the lives saved through responsible driving and participation in traffic,” emphasized Minister Toshkovski.
