Today and tomorrow (November 26–27), in Jahorina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the seventh meeting of the Regional Working Group on Raising Awareness of Small Arms and Light Weapons Misuse is being held, under the auspices of the Clearinghouse for Small Arms and Light Weapons Control in Southeast and Eastern Europe (SEESAC).
At the event, delegations from all member countries — including Macedonia — had the opportunity to present their recent activities in public education and prevention, as well as their plans for the upcoming period. Emphasis was placed on specific challenges, lessons learned, and examples of best practices from the past 12 months.
Some of the areas and issues discussed included the introduction of new approaches to raising awareness and their further implementation, the impact of these new approaches, and specific examples of support needed by jurisdictions to carry out awareness-raising activities deemed necessary in the next one to two years.
As partners in implementation, representatives from the OSCE and UNDP also attended the meetings to coordinate joint activities with national delegations.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs is participating in the Macedonian delegation with its representatives and actively contributing to the debates and working sessions by sharing experiences from domestic public campaigns, educational activities, and preventive measures aimed at completely eradicating the misuse of small arms and light weapons. Our goal is to strengthen the established mechanisms and actively participate in future regional initiatives. The participation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in this forum demonstrates our firm commitment to a safe and stable society, as well as to long-term cooperation with all partners in the regional context.
