Since the beginning of December, 18,318 traffic violations recorded – 123 persons deprived of liberty for reckless driving

In the period from 01.12.2025 to 28.12.2025, as a result of regular traffic controls carried out by police officers from all Internal Affairs Sectors on roads across the country, out of a total of 18,318 issued payment orders, 4,019 violations referred to drivers who failed to respect the prescribed speed limits.

A total of 123 persons were deprived of liberty for reckless driving in accordance with Article 297-a of the Criminal Code, of whom 100 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 13 for speeding in urban areas, seven for speeding outside urban areas, and three for driving in a prohibited direction.

Furthermore, according to police statistics for December, 5,018 violations were recorded for illegal parking, 1,843 measures were imposed on drivers operating vehicles without a driver’s license, and 679 sanctions were issued for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Additionally, pursuant to the Law on Road Traffic Safety, 18 motorcyclists were sanctioned for not wearing protective helmets, and 415 pedestrians were also sanctioned. Moreover, 1,046 traffic participants were sanctioned for not using seat belts.

In accordance with the Law on Vehicles, 322 vehicles were removed from traffic due to being unregistered, and 172 vehicles due to technical defects. 101 drivers were also sanctioned for failing to meet the prescribed conditions regarding window tinting (foils).

Traffic controls will continue in the coming days. We appeal to all traffic participants to respect traffic rules and regulations and jointly contribute to safer roads.
