On June 24, 2026, at approximately 11:30 a.m. in Kriva Palanka, police officers from the Kriva Palanka Police Department arrested N.D. (45) from Skopje on suspicion of attempting to commit the criminal offense of fraud.
According to the information available, an elderly woman from Kriva Palanka had previously received a phone call from a person who falsely identified himself as a doctor from Italy. The caller informed her that her daughter had fallen in Italy and suffered multiple fractures to her leg and jaw, and that €35,000 was needed for an urgent operation.
As the woman did not have that amount of money, she agreed to hand over all the cash she had at home. In the meantime, she contacted her son-in-law, who advised her to notify the police. Police officers subsequently apprehended the suspect near her residence and placed him under arrest.
The suspect is being held at a police station, and upon the completion of the investigation and full documentation of the case, appropriate criminal charges will be filed against him.
