Over the past weekend, 13 persons deprived of liberty for reckless driving pursuant to Article 297-a of the Criminal Code, 1,402 traffic violations

During the past weekend (03–04 January 2026), as a result of regular traffic controls carried out by police officers from all Sectors for Internal Affairs on roads across the country, out of a total of 1,402 issued payment orders, 723 violations related to drivers who failed to comply with the prescribed speed limits.

A total of 13 persons were deprived of liberty for reckless driving pursuant to Article 297-a of the Criminal Code, of whom 12 were detained for driving under the influence of alcohol and one driver for exceeding the permitted speed outside a populated area.

Furthermore, according to the statistical overview of police activities, 165 violations for illegal parking were recorded, 103 measures were imposed on drivers operating a vehicle without a driving licence, as well as 53 sanctions for driving under the influence of alcohol.

On the other hand, in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Road Traffic Safety, five pedestrians were also sanctioned. In addition, 54 road users were sanctioned for not wearing a seat belt. Pursuant to the Law on Vehicles, 18 vehicles were removed from traffic due to being unregistered, and five due to technical defects. Five drivers were also sanctioned for failing to meet the prescribed conditions regarding the tinting of vehicle windows (window films).

Traffic controls will continue in the coming days. We appeal to all road users to comply with traffic rules and regulations and to jointly contribute to safer roads.
