Deputy Minister of Interior Astrit Iseni Chairs 14th Meeting of the Sectoral Working Subgroup “Home Affairs”

The Deputy Minister of Interior, Astrit Iseni, today chaired the 14th meeting of the Sectoral Working Subgroup “Home Affairs”.

The Sectoral Working Subgroup serves as a forum for inter-institutional cooperation at the expert level, focusing on the formulation and implementation of national sectoral policies, including those relevant to EU integration, as well as the utilization of donor assistance and the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA).

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Delegation of the European Union, international organizations, embassies, and members of the working subgroup from institutions responsible for law enforcement.

In his address, Deputy Minister Iseni emphasized that the Ministry is working intensively and with full commitment on the implementation of key reform priorities, which are a prerequisite for progress in the European integration process.

“Today, we can confirm that significant results have been achieved, particularly in the area of reforms of the security and intelligence system, strengthening capacities to combat organized crime and corruption, as well as advancing the rule of law,” Iseni stated.

He expressed gratitude for the support provided by the European Union through the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance. Through the IPA III programme, numerous projects have been implemented in recent years, significantly contributing to the strengthening of institutional capacities—human, technical, and infrastructural.

“This support is essential for the modernization of the Ministry and its alignment with European standards,” Iseni underlined.

During the meeting, strategic planning documents, indicators, and programmatic documents were presented. In addition, the portfolio of ongoing projects within the Ministry of Interior was introduced, as well as upcoming projects to be implemented with the support of the European Union and other donors.

In his concluding remarks, Deputy Minister Iseni referred to key aspects of the reform agenda, the analysis of recommendations from the annual reports of the European Commission, as well as the conclusions stemming from the screening process, once again expressing gratitude for the continuous support provided by the European Union.
