The Ministry of Internal Affairs informs the public that recently there has been an increase in phishing attacks carried out through fake SMS messages, emails, websites, and social media messages.
The fake messages supposedly come from the Department of Motor Vehicles as a notification from the "Safe City" system, and they contain a false link that redirects citizens to make a payment for an alleged traffic violation.
We urge citizens to be cautious when using the internet, not to open suspicious links and messages, to never share personal information such as bank card numbers, passwords, or personal identifiers through unauthorized channels, to verify the sender's address—official institutions and companies use official domains, to use two-factor authentication (2FA) for additional protection of their accounts, and to report suspicious messages to the relevant authorities or their bank.
SMS notifications regarding a violation should come from the sender "MVR-SC." The text must necessarily contain the registration number of the vehicle that committed the violation, and a link in the following format "https://safecountry.mvr.gov.mk..."
The Cyber Crime Sector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues with active investigations and measures to detect and sanction the perpetrators of such fraud.
