The Department for Internal Control, Criminal Investigations and Professional Standards within the Ministry of Interior submitted a criminal complaint under expedited procedure to the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Corruption against K.Š., employed as a police officer at the Police Station for General Jurisdiction Strumica, due to grounds of suspicion that he committed the criminal offense “abuse of official position and authority” under Article 353 of the Criminal Code. A judge in preliminary proceedings imposed precautionary measures on him. On 11.04.2026 at around 09:00, while performing official duties and acting upon a prior report of disturbed public order and peace involving a physical attack assigned to him, K.Š. abused his official position by mediating between the parties for an alleged “peaceful resolution” of the event, during which he unlawfully requested payment of money. The participants agreed, through K.Š., that the person who filed the report would pay the injured party 1,000 euros to withdraw the complaint, after which K.Š. arbitrarily increased the amount by an additional 200 euros as alleged procedural costs. Out of the total 1,200 euros, K.Š. paid only 700 euros to the injured party, while keeping the remaining 500 euros for himself, thereby gaining unlawful financial benefit. The Department will also submit a proposal to initiate disciplinary proceedings for violation of work order and discipline and will impose mandatory measures for suspension from the workplace until the completion of the disciplinary procedure.
